SYNOPSIS
The Female Gaze – Women Directors Talk is a five-minute documentary featuring eight iconic female directors discussing whether there is such a thing as a ‘female gaze’ and if so how it impacts the filmmakers’ output and world view.
Also explored is how they feel about being called ‘women filmmakers’ and whether they can tell if a man or woman made a film.
The focus is documentary film and the filmmakers are:
Phie Ambo (Denmark), Gillian Armstrong (Australia), Pirjo Honkasalo (Finland), Nishtha Jain (India), Nancy D Kates (USA), Kim Longinotto (UK), Marie Mandy (Belgium/France), Ileana Stanculescu (Romania).

I cried watching this … I didn’t expect it to move me. I related so much and felt like the women spoke to feelings I’ve felt but never heard anyone else say. And an appreciation of what women see, communicate, think, feel.

The Female Gaze – Women Directors Talk has screened at several international film festivals, including Sunny Side of the Doc (France, 23 June 2021) and Seoul International Women’s Film Festival (Korea, 27 August 2021)
