About the Author

Lisa French is Dean of RMIT University’s School of Media and Communication and Professor of Screen and Media. She is recognised internationally as one of the foremost scholars on women in Australian film and has published extensively in relation to women in the cinema. Her professional history in film and media includes a wealth of experience in the management, curatorial, creative and strategic direction of screen culture activities, including three years as the director of the prestigious St Kilda Film Festival and nine years as a director of the Australian Film Institute. She has produced documentaries, is Co-chair of a UNESCO 19 global university research network on media, gender and ICTs, and is a member of the federal government agency Screen Australia’s Gender Matters Taskforce.
